BarCamp Delhi 3 & Updates

 BarCamp Delhi 3

I just opened BarCamp Delhi 3 with a talk on GuruGeeks :D . The response - even if it’s majorly people criticising/applauding the logo - has been encouraging :)

There’s been no posting on the blog for the last 2 weeks as I came back to Chandigarh after a week in Bangalore and had tons of emails/work to go through. Then we also started the internal discussion forum at http://gurugeeks.grouphub.com/. We’re now 3 people talking about stuff behind the scenes - Shwetank Dixit (Chandigarh), Ashwin Murali (Bangalore) and Myself (Chandigarh).

Another call out - if you think that you want to be a part of this community by contributing directly to how this grows - just drop us an email at gurudev@grugeeks.net. We’ll be glad to make more noise with another maverick on board :D

Discussions - what to do next ?

November 23rd, 2007

The discussions about GuruGeeks seem to be getting interesting. I think it’s wise to get together and discuss it all together rather than me being a mediator. So, I’ve set up a project at basecamp - http://gurugeeks.grouphub.com. So if you want to catch up with the discussions and want to have a say in how this community of geeks progresses - just send an email to gurudev@gurugeeks.net titled: “Grouphub subscription” and I’ll add you to the project.

Let’s get together and start brainstorming about some crazy stuff. What say? ;)

Gurugeeks - here we go!

November 19th, 2007

This past weekend I was at Barcamp Bangalore 5. I had gone to the Barcamp with Gurugeeks in mind - I wanted to tell people about Gurugeeks and discuss the idea with everyone. Gurugeeks is an effort to create a community of people passionate about the Web in India. The idea is to get together with people who share interest in Web Standards, Web Accessibility, Web Usability and related stuff - to share and learn. The feedback I got from everyone at Barcamp was a real morale booster!! I am thrilled as ever to start with this now. I talked about how the encouragement to start with Gurugeeks has come from the Barcamp spirit here in India. The energy and enthusiasm at these unconferences is just amazing. You know where I’m coming from if you’ve attended a Barcamp, PodCamp, FOSSCamp, SearchCamp, Wiki Camp, MoMo (etc, etc, etc …). People getting together just to share their own knowledge and learn from others - it’s simply beautiful (and so much fun !! ;) ).

So, as I write this first post on this blog I am trying to figure out what all shall I be able to achieve tonight - it’s been three sleepless nights now, and really tiring days on top of it. I’m putting the blog and will hopefully also be able to put up a revamped home page. The plan is to customize the blog as we go. If you can help - you’d be a saviour ;)

As I see it, just like Barcamps - this has to be a community effort. I plan to talk about Gurugeeks at various other unconferences across the countr. I am just trying to initiate it, but I will be talking to people in an effort to encourage others to contribute with their knowledge and expertise . Passion for the web should be more than enough to classify you as a web geek ;). If you want to be involved, just leave a comment here and let’s get talking :)

I’m also uploading the Gurugeeks slides that I presented at the Barcamp. It’s in pdf format right now - I’ll try and upload these in HTML as soon as I can. Download the pdf file here (1.8 Mb).

ps - yes I know the logo on the homepage still needs to be worked upon … soon :)
